UPS Error Code 120412-The shipper cannot use the provided UPS account number as the payment method
When processing a shipment using Third Party or Recipient billing type, the user gets the error '120412-The shipper cannot use the provided UPS account number as the payment method'.
What does this imply ?
Generally, this error occurs when:
The UPS account being billed as 'Collect (Recipient) or Third Party' does not have the permission to be billed as 3rd Party with UPS.
The Billing address (if 3rd Party billing option is chosen) or Receiver address (if Recipient billing) does not match the address which is on file with UPS.
How can this error be resolved ?
Based on the technical support offered by your shipping solution or end customer, you could opt for one of the two most common options below. Your shipping solution provider may offer other alternatives, which you can check with their support team, or reach out to us for consultation.
Confirm that the Postal Code and Country mentioned for the 3rd Party Account Number matches the billing address as maintained on file with UPS. In most cases, the Postal / Zip Code is incorrect, causing the error.
Reach out to the Third party UPS account's owner and request them to check with UPS that the account is setup to allow third party billing, and that there are no blocks or holds on the account.
